Chinese Actress's Tom Cruise Book Goes to Motion Picture
(PRWEB) November 7, 2007 -- A major Chinese film company recently contacted Niki Yan to make a film out of her latest book, which is an autobiographical Novel. It tells the story of a Chinese girl who came to America from an impoverished village of China after she was inspired by Tom Cruise and Top Gun. Tom Cruise invited her to meet him in Los Angeles after he heard her story. And this is not the end of the book, this fascinating story explores the girl's life in detail in Hollywood as an international transplant and dream-seeker. And her journey in China was also heart-felt and provocative. Yan's writing is full of humor and emotion. She pushes buttons and tries to make you think about the world we live in today by making the main Character 'Niki' as a rebel and Maverick. Her brave taking on life and her book is a true human spirit phenomenon.
"It's an interesting and inspiring story," says the head of the Chinese film company. "It's so unique and unusual. It's something you've never heard before. You may never experienced what 'Niki' experienced. But you definitely had a dream like she did."
The company in Beijing already lined up a famous director Zhang Yimou, whom directed Hero and House Of Flying Daggers. They also want Chinese movie Star Zhang Ziyi, whom starred in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero, to star in Yan's film since Zhang is already internationally famous. Zhang Ziyi presented at the Oscars- the 78th Annual Academy Awards last year; her first English film Memoir of a Geisha based on a best-selling book on New York Times.
Zhang Ziyi nodded for the offer, but Yan said No. "I have to star in it. It's my story, it's my life. I can't imagine someone else playing me, even Zhang."
Well, any space for negotiation? "We want Zhang Ziyi to play Niki Yan, but we will definitely consider Yan's request. Her book is not just a Chinese story, it's international. It's so compelling; it's the story of human spirit." Says Mr. Wong, the Chairman of the company. "We know Yan would play it well once the deal is final. She is a talented writer and actress."
Well, how about United Artists run by Tom Cruise? Maybe Cruise is interested in making the film since he's already known Yan. Tom Cruise has been the Chairman of UA since he was fired by Paramount. And UA's first film with Cruise, Lions For Lambs, directed by Robert Redford opens this Friday. When I suggested Niki Yan to contact Tom Cruise, she said, "Tom Cruise is too busy for an original compelling film like this. He is busy with those big budget Hollywood flicks." Well, is that true? Maybe Hollywood would reconsider Yan's decision.
"The film is going to be inspirational, even though the book is controversial, it deals with many issues and problems we have in the world today, and it pushes buttons. I'm not desperate to sell my book to any film company right now, I have many offers." Says Yan, "The bottom line is I must play myself in the movie."
Niki Yan is a famous writer and published author/actress. The English version of her latest book is currently published on her blog and MySpace. Visit www.MyTomCruisebook.blogspot.com.
